Introduction
I
belong to the Nystagmus Network in the UK, they are an organisation
or charity run by, and for, people with Nystagmus. For a small membership
fee each year you can enjoy the benefits of being a member. They say...
'The Nystagmus Network is a UK-based self-help group
set up in 1984, providing support for adults and children with nystagmus,
their parents and teachers and fostering research into the condition.'
I have found their resources absolutely brilliant, especially
for the information that they have provided. I have received various
publications from them which have been very enlightening. I did not
know that much about Nystagmus until I joined the
Network where I also
found that it wasn't just me that had Nystagmus.
I found their pupil card and teacher's information sheet
the most helpful of all. Having filled this in, I took it to the Headteacher
of my school. He then made teaching staff aware of my needs and a copy
of the card was given to each of my teachers. This has made Education
more accessible to me, without the need for me to ask for support, which
can be embarrassing!
