glasses prescription - france/uk equivalence?

Postby mikael » Sun Jul 25, 2010 7:59 pm

Hi,

Right, here is my problem:

Two weeks ago, I started to have lots of headaches, couldn't work a lot, couldn't control my congenital nystagmus, it was too shaky and really a pain to go to the office.
I decided to fly back to France and see an ophtalmologist specialised in this particular condition (I'm French and I wanted someone who could read my full health/medical record, all written in French).

Anyway, according to her, my glasses are completely wrong, the prescription she gave me (the sphere/cyl/axis thing) is quite different from the one I got from an optometrist (I did a £25 test in a glasses shop last year).

I would tend to trust the tests done on Friday since they were carried out by an ophtalmologist who knows a lot about Nystagmus rather than a general optometrist.

Anyway, I came back yesterday and went straight to Vision Express this morning and the shopclerk told me they can't use a foreign test! He is gonna discuss the issue tomorow with his maanger and call me tomorow but I'm a little worried here, I really need those proper glasses now since at the moment, I can't really work properly...

Anyone in the same situation? Any recommendations? If I have to see an Ophtalmologist specialised in Nystagmus in the UK to confim the findings, how much time are we looking at? days/weeks/months?

Thanks in advance

Mikael

I solved my problem.

The manager of the shop agreed to use my French documents to make those lenses... I think the first two employees i talked to were just trying to "cover their butt" or something :-)

Still, 15 working days of headaches ahead... well just 14 now :-)

I sympathise with your quandary about opticians Mikael, been there, done that . . .

We have had some discussion about opticians in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1560 you might find it interesting or even amusing. :)
I have congenital nystagmus as do several other members of my family, including my grandson.
