NN Open Day 09 - London - 3rd October

Postby James » Thu Sep 10, 2009 4:35 pm

This year is the 25th anniversary of the Nystagmus Network UK. This theme of celebration is going to be at the forefront of their 2009 open day!

The programme for the open day has been set and bookings are coming in thick and fast. Numbers are limited, so it is important to book a place. (You cannot just turn up on the day, without a booking).

Date: Saturday 3rd October 2009
Time: 9:45 to about 4pm
Venue: RNIB, Judd Street, London
Price: £15 per person aged 16 or over. Anyone under 16 goes free, but must be booked.

Non-members and members of the Nystagmus Network are equally welcome.

Highlights of the day:
  • The opportunity to quiz a panel of nystagmus researchers
  • Meeting other people with nystagmus and parents of people with nystagmus
  • Participate in a bodywork session - for people who have difficulty with balance and alignment
  • Join discussion groups about various aspects of nystagmus - employment, education, being a parent...
  • Celebrate the 25th anniversary of NN by eating some cake

A professional creche will be running throughout the day and Look (a charity that works with young people who are visually impaired), will be running some activities for children.

For more information about the day and to book online, visit http://www.nystagmusnet.org/openday09.

So, who's coming?

I realised at the open day that I know so little bout my Nystagmus!

I'm thinking about getting tests done to find out more bout it, as Jay Self recomended I do.

Even I know very little about my nystagmus. I found that I didn't take everything in the first time. Plus, there is always something new to learn.

It was great to see so many of you at the Open Day. I hope you all enjoyed it and if you have any feedback, please, let myself or NN know.

Ash, Joshua and myself had a fantastic day! We Learn't so much and it was great to meet so many people with the same condition as Joshua. It was the first time we were in the company of people that actually understood it, and could teach us instead of the other way around. It was brilliant to meet other parents and swap stories that were so similar to each others children. Joshua really enjoyed his day in the creche and the workers were lovely. It was also very reassuring and lovely to hear the stories from the younger generation on how they have not let Nystagmus get in the way of success. Brilliant!

Many thanks to all the hard work that goes into making such a brilliant day. we will definately be attending more.

Jen, Ash and Joshua x
